Long-acting injectable risperidone and hospital readmission: a mirror-image study using a national claim-based database in Taiwan.

چکیده
Sir: Poor compliance with antipsychotic medication, which would potentially lead to disease relapse, has been challenging for psychiatrists when treating schizophrenia. Long-acting injection of antipsychotics is an appropriate alternative, since better compliance improves treatment outcomes. Mirror-image studies, in which each patient acts as his/her own control, of long-acting injection of conventional antipsychotics have shown significant decreases in numbers of hospitalizations and days of hospitalization. The development of atypical antipsychotics has provided a new treatment paradigm based on their superior tolerability, if not efficacy. Risperidone long-acting injection (RLAI) is the first licensed long-acting injectable atypical antipsychotic agent and has recently been reported cost-effective by reducing total admission number and inpatient days in a communitybased inpatient setting. To our knowledge, a national claimbased database has never been used in any mirror-image study for RLAI.

Relapse and long-acting injectable risperidone: a 1-year mirror image study with a national claims database in Taiwan.
OBJECTIVES The development of long-acting, injectable atypical antipsychotics has provided a new paradigm for schizophrenia treatment. The study was designed to assess whether a risperidone long-acting injection (RLAI) is associated with reduced relapses and service utilization in the real world. METHODS The Psychiatric Inpatients Medical Claims dataset was used for the analysis. It is a long...
متن کاملTreatment continuation of four long-acting antipsychotic medications in the Netherlands and Belgium: A retrospective database study
Achieving greater continuation of treatment is a key element to improve treatment outcomes in schizophrenia patients. However, reported treatment continuation can differ markedly depending on the study design. In a retrospective setting, treatment continuation remains overall poor among patients using antipsychotics. This study aimed to document the difference in treatment continuation between ...
متن کاملImage Backlight Compensation Using Recurrent Functional Neural Fuzzy Networks Based on Modified Differential Evolution
In this study, an image backlight compensation method using adaptive luminance modification is proposed for efficiently obtaining clear images. The proposed method combines the fuzzy C-means clustering method, a recurrent functional neural fuzzy network (RFNFN), and a modified differential evolution. The proposed RFNFN is based on the two backlight factors that can accurately detect the compensat...
متن کاملSwitching from risperidone long-acting injectable to paliperidone long-acting injectable or oral antipsychotics: analysis of a Medicaid claims database
This report examines relapse risk following a switch from risperidone long-acting injectable (RLAI) to another long-acting injectable antipsychotic [paliperidone palmitate (PP)] versus a switch to oral antipsychotics (APs). Truven Health's MarketScan Multistate Medicaid Database compared relapses following switches from RLAI. New user cohorts for these two groups were created on the basis of fi...
متن کاملLong-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics for Prevention of Relapse in Bipolar Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses of Randomized Controlled Trials
BACKGROUND This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials aimed to examine the advantages of long-acting injectable antipsychotics over placebo or oral medications regarding efficacy and safety for patients with bipolar disorder. METHODS Two categorical meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials were performed to compare study-defined relapse rate (primary), discontinuation rates, and ...
